Outdoor rugs 5x7: what the size actually covers

A 5x7 is the largest rug we make, and it is the size most people land on when they want a seating area to read as a room rather than a corner. It measures 60″ × 84″ — five feet by seven, exactly.

What fits on one

• A bistro table with two chairs, with room to push the chairs back.
• A pair of loungers side by side.
• A two-seater with the front legs on the rug and a low table in front.
• Two armchairs facing each other across a side table.

What does not

A four-seat dining set. That is the honest limit of this size and it is worth saying plainly, because it is the most common reason a 5x7 goes back. Once four chairs pull out from a table the legs come off the rug, and the arrangement looks worse than it did on bare paving. That set-up wants a 6x9 or an 8x10, and we make neither.

Placing it

The rule that has never failed: get the front legs of every chair onto the rug. That is what ties the furniture together. Leave roughly the same margin of hard floor visible on all sides so the rug reads as deliberate rather than as an offcut. And where the space allows either a 4x6 or a 5x7, take the 5x7 — rugs almost always look smaller in place than they did in the measurements.

Tolerance and material

Each rug is cut and finished individually, and the 60″ × 84″ carries a tolerance of around 7.5″. If you are fitting to a tight alcove, measure with that in mind.
