Boho, Moroccan and bohemian outdoor rugs

Boho outdoors is less a specific pattern than a specific tolerance — for layering, for mismatched cushions, for a terrace that looks lived in rather than staged. The rug is what holds all of it together.

The patterns that sit under the name

  • Moroccan. Open diamond and trellis geometry on a pale ground, drawn from Beni Ourain weaving. The most versatile of the group, and the closest boho gets to a neutral. More diamond and trellis patterns here.
  • Vintage and Persian-style. Faded medallions and borders, deliberately distressed.
  • Kilim and tribal geometry. Flat, banded, stepped shapes in clay, indigo and cream.
  • Mixed folk motifs. Suzani-style flowers, block-print repeats, hand-drawn edges.

Why distressed patterns are the practical choice outdoors

This is the part that gets overlooked. A vintage-look rug is designed to appear worn already. Outdoors that is a genuine advantage: a season of pollen, rain marks, dropped drinks and leaf litter leaves traces on any rug, and a faded, mottled pattern absorbs them where a crisp graphic shows every one.

If you want a terrace that still looks right in September without weekly attention, a distressed pattern is doing more work for you than a clean one.
