Navy outdoor rugs: the outdoor dark neutral

Navy behaves like a neutral outdoors in a way that black does not. It is dark enough to anchor a space and to hide most of what a summer throws at a rug, but there is a color in it, so it reads as considered rather than severe.

Why navy is the practical choice

Dark grounds are the most forgiving surface outdoors. Rain marks, pollen, dried splashes and the general residue of a season outside all show far less on navy than on cream, sand or white. If your rug lives somewhere exposed — an uncovered deck, a balcony that catches driving rain — this is the palette that will still look right in September.
